Dateline Jasper: Virlee (Metzger) Stemle age 91 of Jasper passed away at 1:45 P.M. Thursday May 12, 2005 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes. She was born December 14, 1913 in Ferdinand IN. to: Edmund Earl and Verona (Welp) Metzger. She married Simon Stemle June 7, 1938 at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church in Ferdinand. He passed away February 25, 1989. She was an Optometrist in Jasper from 1934-1991. Memberships include: St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Ann’s Society, Indiana Optometric Association, American Optometric Association, American Academy of Optometry, Charter member of the Business of Professional Women, Dubois County Art Guild, Jasper Chamber of Conference, and a Girl Scout Leader. Surviving: 2 daughters-Miriam Boyd O.D. of Vincennes, and Mrs. David (Eileen) Nowak of South Bend IN. 1 Grandson-Neal Nowak Preceded in death besides her husband is 1 brother-Dr. Gilbert E. Metzger. Visitation will be held from 1:00-8:00 P.M. Sunday at the Becher & Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. There will be a Rosary by the St. Anns Society and St. Joseph Parish at 3:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home. Funeral service will be held at 9:30 A.M. Monday May 16, 2005 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper.
