Oscar was born in Ireland, Indiana on June 8, 1922 to John and Ida (Pfeffer) Hurst. He was married to Myrtle Sallee, she preceded him in death on July 26, 2008. He worked as truck driver for many years. Oscar was an Army Veteran who served in the European Theater during WWII. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Jasper, the VFW Post #673, the American Legion Post #147, and the Jasper Moose Lodge. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing cards. Surviving, Three daughters, Brenda Streicher, South Carolina Donna Caruso and her husband Wayne, Indianapolis, IN Cathy Bosler and her husband Mike, Jasper, IN Six sons, Cliff Shirley, Ocala, FL Curt Shirley and wife Karen, Orange County, CA Mike Hurst, Arthur, IL Dave Hurst and his wife Suzanne, Jasper, IN Don Hurst and his wife Linda, Jasper, IN Kenny Hurst and his wife Sharon, Jasper, IN 27 Grandchildren 20 Great grandchildren Preceding him in death beside his wife are a daughter Jackie Crouse, and one son, Gregory J. Hurst, one sister, Mary Ann Hurst, and six brothers, Gene Hurst, and Ted, Sylvester, George, Florian, and Ambrose Sermersheim. Funeral services for Oscar Hurst will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday (July 10, 2013) at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Jasper with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper. The VFW Post #673 will conduct military gravesite rites. Friends may call from 9:00-11:00 a.m. on Wednesday (July 10, 2013) at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper.
