Scherle, age 81 of Jasper, passed away at 12:35 a.m. today (November 7, 2011) at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper. She was born at Jasper, Indiana on August 25, 1930 to Theodore and Emma (Hochgesang) Schwenk. She married Thomas W. Scherle Sr. on May 5, 1950 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland, Indiana. He preceded her in death on July 17, 1999. She retired from farming. She also previously worked at Wood Products and Kimball, and then retired from Watson’s clothing store, where she worked for 16 years. She was a member of the Ireland High School Class of 1948. She was a D of I member, where she had also held the title of Regiant, a member of the St. Anne’s Society of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland, past member of the Legion of Mary, a religious education instructor for St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland, where she taught for 40 years, and a girl scout leader at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland. She was also awarded the Simon Brute from St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ireland for service to the Catholic Church. Surviving. Two daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Deborah) Nordhoff, Jasper, IN Mrs. Jerome (Germaine) Schuck, Jasper, IN Three sons, Gerard (Douglas) Scherle, Jasper, IN Duane T. Scherle, Jasper, IN Thomas F. Scherle Jr., Jasper, IN Nine grandchildren, Melissa and Brandon Scherle, Andrew and Luke Nordhoff, Natalie (Scherle) O’Connor and Megan Scherle, Katie Schuck, and Cody and Cheyenne Scherle. Four great grandchildren, Ella and Drew Nordhoff, Lucy Nordhoff, and Hagen O’Connor. Two Step-brothers, Louis Schwenk, Jasper, IN Urban Schwenk, Ireland IN Preceding her in death besides her husband, are one sister, who died in infancy, one step-sister, Nancy Hopf, and two step-brothers, Bernie and Thomas Schwenk. Funeral services for Emma E. Scherle will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday (November 9, 2011) at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland, with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper. Friends may call from 1:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday (November 8, 2011) at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. There will be a rosary at 3:00 p.m. said by the Jasper D of I. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland.
