Eileen was born on October 28, 1924 in Schnellville, Indiana to Theodore and Clara (Boeglin) Schnell. She married Jack Nelson on March 10, 1951 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Schnellville, Indiana. Eileen first earned her diploma from Nazareth School of Nursing, St. Joseph Infirmary in Louisville in 1945. She started her career as an RN in the Army Nursing Corps. She later worked at Stork Hospital in Huntingburg and at Midland Memorial Hospital in Midland, TX. She spent the majority of her career caring for elderly patients at Mile-Hi Nursing home in Lakewood, CO and Providence Home in Jasper all while raising her 13 children. Eileen was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Schnellville, Sacred Heart St. Ann's Society, St. Vincent De Paul, Farm Bureau, Schnellville Community Club, American Legion Auxillary, Schnellville Quilting Club and Home Economics Club. Eileen was also an avid sewer, making clothes and blankets for her many children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Eileen also loved to bake and was especially known for her cinnamon rolls. She and Jack loved to travel whether it was visiting her children scattered around the country or touring Europe, Asia and the Holy Land. Eileen will best be remembered for her genuine love and deep compassion for everyone she met. Funeral services for Eileen M. Nelson will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday (October 16, 2013) at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Schnellville, Indiana, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday (October 15, 2013) at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper and one hour before services at the church. The Sacred Heart St. Ann's Society will pray a rosary at 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sacred Heart Cemetery Fund or to a favorite charity.
