Shetler age 83 of Jasper died at 12:48 a.m. (Monday February 27, 2006) in Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper. Fr. Shetler was born on December 28, 1922 at Evansville, Indiana to Fredrick and Mayme Jane (Moore) Shetler. Monsignor attended Castle Heights Military Academy in Lebanon, Tn and St. Meinrad Seminary. Msgr. Shetler was ordained May 31, 1947: His assignments include Asst., St. Theresa, Evansville, and teacher, Memorial High School, 1947; asst., St. Boniface, Evansville, and teacher, Mater Dei High School, 1949; teacher, Mater Dei High School, and residence, St. Agnes, 1950; asst., St. Anthony, Evansville, 1951; asst, St. John, Loogootee, 1952; asst, St. Simon, Washington, 1952; pastor, St. Joseph, Bramble, and mission, St. Michael ,Daviess Co., 1954; pastor, St. Mary, Ireland, 1957; pastor, St. Mary Evansville, 1970; pastor, St. Joseph, Jasper, 1973; Domestic Prelate, October 21, 1980; pastor, St. Martin, Whitfield and administrator, St. Mary, Shoals, 1983; pastor, St. Martin, Whitfield, 1996; retired, 1997 He is survived by his caretakers; Dodi Strange and her family and grandchildren all of Jasper, IN, Edward Strange, Mrs. Rodney “Carla” Miller, Mrs. Lowell “Suzy” Lane, Jeremy Trusty and Thea and Gabrielle Trusty and Madelyn Lane. 1 sister, Catherine Clark, Evansville, IN Also several nieces survive. Preceding him in death is 1 sister, Mary Delores Widmer and 1 brother Omer Joseph Shetler. Funeral services for Rev .Msgr. Fr. Shetler will be held at 11:00 a.m Friday March 3, 2006 in St. Mary Catholic Church in Ireland with burial to follow in St. Martin Cemetery in Whitfield, Indiana. Bishop Gerald A. Gettelfinger and fellow priests will officiate. Memorial service will held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Friends may call from 2 -8 p.m. Thursday (March 2, 2006) at the Becher–Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper and from 9:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. service on Friday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Ireland. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Ireland, St. Joseph Catholic Church, Jasper and St. Martins Catholic Church, Whitfield, IN
