Beck age 68 of Jasper died at 1:40 p.m. Sunday, (February 22, 2004) at the Northwood Good Samaritan Nursing Center in Jasper.. She was born at Celestine, Indiana on May 20, 1935. Her parents; Edward and Mary Mamie (Pieper) Merkel. She married Wilfred H. Beck on July 9, 1978, he preceded her in death on January 25, 2000. She was a Homemaker and member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper. Also the Daughters of Isabella and the V.F.W. Auxilialry to Post # 673 in Jasper and the Dubois County Homemakers Club. Surviving are 2 sisters; Mrs. Leona Seckinger, Clarksville, IN Mrs. Rose Mae Mathies, Indianapolis, IN 1 step-son, Ronald Beck, New Lexington, OH 1 step-daughter, Mrs. Paul Camilla Hopf, Jasper,IN Also several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death besides her husband are 2 sisters; Anna Schroeder and Alice Striegel and 5 brothers; Wilfred, Norbert, Bernard, Joseph and Frank Merkel. Funeral services for Berneda Beck will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday (February 26, 2004) in St. Joseph Catholic Church with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper. Friends may call from 2 - 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Becher - Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. Rosary at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday by the D of I;s and a Memorial Service at 6:30 p.m. by the V.F.W. Auxiliary. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Northwood Good Sarmaritan Nursing Center in Jasper.
