She was born January 28, 1932 in Dubois to: Fred Humbert Sr. and Leona Schepers. She married Linus J. Merkel May 22, 1954. She was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church and the Precious Blood Ladies Sodality. Surviving: Her husband Linus J. Merkel of Jasper. 1 son Maurice Merkel of Jasper. 4 Daughters-Mrs. Gary (Phyllis) Begle of Mariah Hill, Joyce Jacobs of Jasper, Mrs. Tom (Cheryl) Begle of Evansville, Mrs. Charlie (Jane) Hochmeister of Duff 1 brother-Norbert Humbert of Huntingburg 3 sisters-Mary Merkel of Huntingburg, Mildred Vaal of St. Meinrad, and her twin sister Elizabeth “Lil” Schepers of Ohio. 10 Grandchildren 3 great grandchildren Preceded in death by 4 brothers-Fred Jr., Richard, Maurice, and Eugene Humbert, 1 sister-Matilda Kern Visitation will be held from 1:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday at the Becher & Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. Funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday December 22, 2003 at Precious Blood Catholic Church in Jasper with entombment to follow in Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum in Jasper.
