Stenftenagel, age 76 of Maltersville, passed away at 10:17 p.m. , Sunday (May 13, 2012) at Memorial Hospital in Jasper. He was born August 24, 1935 in Jasper, Indiana to Fred and Georgina (Marks) Stenftenagel. He married Margaret (Margie) Lindauer on February 7, 1959 in St Ferdinand Catholic Church in Ferdinand. Si was a coal truck driver for 16 years at Reese Coal co. Later he was owner of Si's Welding Shop. He was a contract delivery hauler for North American Products. He was superintendent of the St. Anthony Water Utility for 35 years where he retired. He also worked at G&T Industries as a truck driver. He was the re- founder of the town of Maltersville in 1965. He was a Knights of Columbus Grand Knight of the Jasper Council 1584. He held offices in state and district waster associations, was president of the Maltersville Community Park, president of the Dubois County Young Democrats, president and organizer of the 4 Rivers Arts and Crafts Festival and sponsored the Jasper Army Craft shows for 28 years. Si is best known for his catering and whole hog roasts - Si's Famous Barbecue. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church . He served as a military police in the Army and is a member of the American Legion Post #147 in Jasper. Funeral services for Silas Stenftenagel will be held at 10:00am Thursday (May 17, 2012) in Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery. American Legion Post #147 will conduct military gravesite rites. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday (May 16, 2012) at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper.
