She was born on April 23, 1912 at St. Anthony, Indiana. Her parents; Peter and Josephine (Zeller- Hedinger) Gehl. She married Leo T. Recker on January 21, 1931 at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church he preceded her in death on July 8, 1987. A homemaker and member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church - St. Ann’s Society - St. Cecelia Study Club - The Spred Program at Joseph Parish and the Oblates of Saint Benedict in Ferdinand, Indiana. Surviving are 1 daughter; Mrs. Greg “Betty” Jo” Buescher, St. Louis, MO 5 sons; Leon Recker, Celestine, IN David Recker, St. Anthony, IN Jerome Recker, Wilmington, CA Gene Recker, Jasper, IN Paul Recker, Ellington, CT 23 Grandchildren 19 Great Grandchildren 1 brother, Fred J. Gehl, Sonora, CA Preceding her in death besides her husband are 5 brothers, Herbert and Silas Gehl ; and Frank, Carl and Peter Gehl who died in infancy also 7 sisters, Rosa Gehl, Elizabeth Heichelbech, Blanche York, Frances Messmer, Amelia Messmer Schilling, Catherine Mundy and Madgalene Webb; and 2 grandchildren. Funeral services for Marie Recker will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday (May 27, 2004) in St. Joseph Catholic Church with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper. Friends may call from 2 -8 p.m. Wednesday at the Becher - Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. Rosary at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday by the St. Ann’s Society - Rosary at 4:00 p.m. by the Oblates of Saint Benedict. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or to the Sisters of St. Benedict.
