Leroy J. Schroeder

Dateline Jasper, Indiana, Leroy Joseph Schroeder, age 81, of Jasper, Indiana, passed away at 8:40 a.m. on Thursday (September 8, 2016) at home. Leroy was born in Jasper, Indiana, on July 28, 1935 to Joseph and Esther (Fischer) Schroeder. He married Bernetta Jahn on October 25, 1956 in St. Joseph Catholic Church. Leroy retired as a custodian of 10th Street School. He started the Jasper Men's Basketball League. He was a basketball referee and baseball umpire. In 1977 Leroy was appointed to the Jasper City Council where he served as councilman for the 5th precinct for over 18 years. He was awarded the "Key to the City" from Mayor William Schmitt in 1995. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and St. Joseph's Society. He was a Fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed attending mass, playing cards, watching his children and grandchildren's golf, baseball, softball, cheerleading, swimming, soccer, and tennis events. He also enjoyed going to the family farm and Beaver Lake. Funeral services for Leroy Schroeder will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Monday (September 12, 2016) in St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Jasper, with entombment to follow in Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum in Jasper.
