He was born at Schnellville, Indiana on October 14, 1924 to John and Arlina (Miller) Betz. Married to Alice Hopf on May 11, 1948 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Huntingburg, Indiana. Leo Betz, WWII Army Veteran was a Farmer and Truck Driver in the Schnellville Community. 4-H Leader for 35 years and served on the board of Directors of the Dubois County Co-op and Director of the Soil and Water Conservation Association. He is a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a member of the Church Choir . St. Vincent DePaul Society - Schnellville Community Club & Schnellville Conservation Club – Cattleman Association. Surviving is his wife Alice 5 daughters; Mrs. Cyril (Shirley) Englert, St. Anthony, IN Mrs. David (Mary) Wagner, St. Meinrad, IN Nancy Foll, St. Anthony, IN Mrs. Daniel (Ruth) Gehlhausen, Marietta, GA Mrs. Kent (Rita) McCain, Ireland, IN 4 sons; Larry Betz Charlie Betz Clarence Betz Gary Betz all of Schnellville, IN 25 grandchildren 22 great grandchildren 5 sisters; Sr. Mary Bede and Sr. Mary Lucia of Our Lady of Grace Convent, Beech Grove, IN Mrs. Linus (Margaret) Knies, St. Anthony, In Frances Schepers, Hopkinsville, KY Mrs. Bernie (Erlene) Gehlhausen, Newburgh, IN 3 brothers; Eugene Betz, Schnellville, IN Joe Betz, Huntingburg, IN Richard Betz, Dale, IN Preceding him in death are 2 sons died in infancy and 1 brother Albert G. Betz and 3 sisters; Clara Mae Hohl, Augusta Hopf and Josepha Betz who died in infancy. Funeral services for Leo Betz will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday (April 2, 2008) in Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial to follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. St. Anthony American Legion Post # 493 will conduct Military Grave Side Rites. Friends may call from noon – 8 p.m. Tuesday (April 1, 2008) at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Church Cemetery Fund.
