He was born at Dubois, Indiana on October 23, 1928 to Rollie P. and Alice (Teufel) Poe, married Marian Loften on May 13, 1953. John was a 20 year career Army veteran, retired with the rank of Major in the U.S. Army – he was a Korean War Army Veteran. He graduated from Indiana University with a degree in Business Administration – Class of 1950. While at I.U. he was a member of Pi Kappa Phi social fraternity. He is a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Dubois – V.F.W. Post #673 and the American Legion post in Indianapolis, Indiana –member and worked as a volunteer at the Dubois County Museum in Jasper - Dubois County Historical Society – he was very active in the Scouting both as a young man and as a parent. John was an avid researcher and loved doing genealogy and was a master of quips. Surviving is his wife Marian of 54 years 2 daughters, Mrs. Rick (Kathleen) Guisti, Houston, TX Mrs. Neil (Barbara) Graves, Monticello, FL 2 sons, John W. Poe Jr. , Raleigh N.C. David R. Poe spouse Peggy, Kinston, N.C. 4 grandchildren, Paige, Rachel, Evan and Natalie 1 sister, Mary Ellen (Ellie ) Gramer, Indianapolis, IN 1 niece, Elizabeth Lowe, North Salem, Indiana 1 nephew, Bill Gramer, Indianapolis, IN Funeral services for John William Poe will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday (October 26, 2007) at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Dubois with burial to follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery at Dubois, Indiana. The Rev. Ven Walter will officiate. V.F.W. Post # 673 in Jasper will conduct military grave side rites. Friends may call from Noon – 8 p.m. Thursday (October 25, 2007) at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper and one hour before service at church on Friday. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Dubois.
