Dateline Jasper, Indiana Ernie Wehr age 52 of St. Anthony, Indiana died at 1:35 p.m. Tuesday (May 6, 2003) in Barnes Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri. He was a recipient of a new heart after waiting for a year as a patient at the hospital in St. Louis. He owned and operated Ernie’s Welding Shop in St. Anthony. He served as chief of the St. Anthony Fire Department for 15 years from 1981 to his retirement from the department in 1996; joined the fire department in 1976. Memberships; St. Anthony Catholic Church - St. Anthony Community Center - St. Anthony Conservation - Schnellville Conservation Club - St. Anthony 800 Club. He was a former parish church council member - also served on the 4-H Council - St. Anthony Jaycees and past Chairman of the St. Anthony Quasqui-centennial committee. Born at Huntingburg, Indiana on January 23, 1951. Parents; Charlie and Rose (Blessinger) Wehr. Married to Martha Betz on Oct. 16, 1971 at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Surviving are his wife Martha. 2 sons; Adam and Luke Wehr , both of St. Anthony, IN. Mother; Rose Wehr, St. Anthony, IN. 6 sisters; Mrs. Birnie “Margie” Jeffries, Mrs. John “Eileen” Schnieders, Mrs. Jason “Kathy” Merkel all of St. Anthony, IN - Mrs. John “Julie” Gutgsell , and Mrs. Mike “Ann” Hassfurther both of Jasper, IN - Mrs. Glenn “Barbara” Becher, Mesa, AZ 4 brothers; John, Mark and Paul Wehr all of St. Anthony, IN Leon Wehr, Celestine, IN. 1 grandson Ryder Wehr. Preceding him in death are his father Charlie Wehr. Funeral services for Ernie Wehr will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday (May 9, 2003) in St. Anthony Catholic Church with burial to follow in St. Anthony Cemetery. Friends may call from noon - 9:00 p.m. Thursday at the Becher - Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper.
