Edward Ploetner Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Dateline Jasper: Dr. Edward J. Ploetner age 85 of Jasper passed away at 5:00 P.M. Tuesday December 21, 2004 at the St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper. He was born December 27, 1919 in Louisville KY. To: Oscar and Elizabeth (Schenk) Ploetner. He married Cecilia Kress May 16, 1946. He was a physician and Surgeon for Memorial Hospital in Jasper. Dr. Ploetner graduated from Xavier High School, and acquired his college and Medical degrees from the University of Louisville. Following a 2 year internship in Louisville, he served in the Army Medical Corps in Lexington. He returned to Louisville to complete a four year Residency in Surgery. In 1952 he moved his family to Jasper, beginning a 40 year Surgical, Medical Practice. He retired in 1992. He served on the Jasper School Board for 12 years, the Jasper City Council for 20 years, the Dubois County Medical Society and Memorial Hospital Board. Professional affiliations include: American Medical Association, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a Fellow of the American society of Abdominal Surgeons and a Diplomat of the American Board of Abdominal Surgeons. He enjoyed Bowling, Golf, family photography, and occasional Pheasant Hunts in South Dakota. Surviving: his wife Cecilia “C. Mae” Ploetner of Jasper. 3 sons-Edward Ploetner Jr. of Birdseye IN., Bob Ploetner of Jasper, and John Ploetner of Jacksonville FL. 2 daughters- Mrs. Thomas (Phyllis) Corrigan of Glenview IL., and Mrs. Lawrence (Peggy) Christian of Gainesville FL. 6 Grandchildren 2 Great Granddaughters Visitation will be held from 12:00-7:00 P.M. Sunday at the Becher & Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. There will be a Rosary by St. Joseph Parish at 3:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday December 27, 2004 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper.
