Becher - Kluesner Funeral Home, Inc. 812-482-4141 Dateline Jasper, Indiana Dennis M. Bell age 92 of Jasper died at 11:25 p.m. Sunday (January 4, 2004) at the Heritage House of Jasper. He was born on August 11, 1911 in Jasper, Indiana. His parents; John and Lula (Hoffman) Bell. He married Genevieve Schuetter June 29, 1939 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper. (married for 64 years.) He graduated Summa Cum Laude from the Louisville College of Pharmacy in 1932 and was Class Valedictorian. He was a retired Pharmacist and a former co-owner of Flick’s Drugs Store in Jasper. He was the first pharmacist to work at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper where he worked for 15 years. A WWII Navy Veteran he served on the USS Relief Hospital Ship as a pharmacist. He was an avid Tennis Player and he started the Jasper Bowling Association in 1936 and was an avid bowler for 50 years.. He is a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper where he served as a Eucharist Minister and Lector and server for 14 years, Also served as a Eucharist Minister at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper. He was a member of the Holy Name Society and he was instrumental in starting the Eucharist Hour of Adoration Program in St. Joseph Church in Jasper. Also a member of the Jasper Knight of Columbus. V.F.W. Post # 673 and the American Legion Post # 147. Surviving are his wife Genevieve. 1 son; Kenneth Bell, Jasper, IN 1 daughter; Sr. Judith Ann Bell, Franciscan Sisters of Mary, St. Louis, MO 3 grandchildren; Tim, Tom and Mike Bell and 8 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 2 half brothers; Cyrines and Alvin Singer. 1 half sister, Viola Singer Baxter. Funeral services for Dennis M. Bell will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in St. Joseph Catholic Church with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper. V.F.W. Post # 673 in Jasper will conduct Military Grave Side Rites. Friends may call from 2 - 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Becher - Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. A Rosary will be prayed at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday by members of St. Joseph Parish.. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or to the Heritage House Alzheimer’s Activities Center or to a favorite charity.
