She was born January 21, 1918, Jasper, Indiana to Frank and Christine (Fleck) Buechler. Married Alois Sermersheim February 21, 1935 at Baltimore, Maryland, he preceded her in death on April 1, 1977. Surviving; 3 daughters, Jackie Eckert, Ireland, IN Mrs. Bernard (Donna) Vogler, Mrs. Kenny (Sheila) Schuler both Jasper, IN 4 sons; Melvin Sermersheim and spouse Georgina, St. Anthony, IN Stanley Sermersheim and spouse Linda, St. Anthony, IN Larry Sermersheim and spouse Rita Huntingburg, IN David Sermersheim and spouse Norma Jasper, IN 33 grandchildren, 46 Great Grandchildren Preceding her in death besides her husband are, 1 daughter, Shirley Renner and 1 son Kenneth who died in infancy Also 2 grandchildren, Joe Eckert and Tim Sermersheim and 1 great grandchild, Zachary Durcholz. and 3 brothers, Raymond, Wilfred, Walter and 1 sister, Anna Marie Wehr. Bernice Sermersheim was a member St. Mary Catholic Church in Ireland where She was instrumental in organizing the School Lunch Program at St. Mary’s Elementary School in Ireland. She also worked for many years as a nurses Aid at Memorial Hospital & Health Care Center in Jasper. Also a member of the Daughters of Isabella and the St. Ann’s Society, V.F.W. Auxiliary to Post # 673, Quilters Guild, Historical Society, Ireland Sportsman Club, German Club, Generations and Tri –Capp. She was the recipitient of the Brute Award of the Diocese of Evansville and the Senior Volunteer Award for 30 years of service . Funeral services for Bernice Sermersheim will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday (July 9, 2009) in St. Mary Catholic Church with burial to follow in St. Mary Cemetery in Ireland Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday (July 8, 2009) at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. Rosary will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday by the D of I ‘s and the St. Ann’s Society. Memorial service at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday by the V.F.W. Auxiliary to post # 673 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or to a favorite charity.
